Chalkboard Canning Labels Great for Gifting Too!

Chalkboard Canning Labels Size Guide

Oval labels come in two sizes. The smaller fits the 4 ounce quilted crystal Ball, Kerr, and other glass jelly jars; the larger oval fits the 8 and 12 ounce size jars.  Both were designed to fit perfectly in the smooth oval area on the side of the glass containers. For small glass containers that do not have the quilted crystal texture, the larger oval Cohas Chalkboard label may be a better choice.

Canning jars come in two standard size tops

The “regular” size is the smaller of the two. It is used on the larger old style standard 16 ounce canning jars, and all the Quilted Crystal style containers. The chalkboard canning labels that fit the regular size lids are 2 inches round in diameter. The wide mouth lids use the 2-1/2 inch round chalkboard canning labels. The chalkboard sticker will fit right in the center of the indent in the cover. On both sizes, when the top ring is on your container, the label is in full view.

Plastic and metal screw lids for both sizes are available. They also support the Cohas chalkboard canning labels. Applying in the center of the cap provides a neat smooth surface for you to identify or decorate. All the shapes and sizes come with no design on the label, giving you have the entire area for your homemade lettering or illustration.

Over 7 Types of Chalkboard Canning Labels

Select from kits with a marker or a refill kit with no marker. Kits that include a marker come with a premium semi-permanent waterproof marker or a permanent waterproof marker. The extra fine marker features a 0.5mm tip, perfect for creating super fine lines about 1/32 inches wide. The fine marker features a 1mm tip, perfect for creating thin lines about 1/16 inches wide.

The semi-permanent markers will not wash off with just water and require Windex or an ammonia based cleaner. Permanent markers are truly permanent and will not wash off regardless of the solvent or cleaners used. This product is not recommended for children to use.

Refill kits come with labels only and no chalk marker. Waterproof marker is recommended for best results.

Available Chalkboard Label Kits

All products are available in your choice of white, silver, gold markers or a refill kit. Markers are available in Fine 1mm and Extra Fine 1/2mm tip sizes. Also available permanent markers that can not be removed with soaps, Windex or solvents.

Safe in your home, office, restaurant or business. Semi-permanent markers, imported from Japan have the CE mark, meet Toy Safety Regulation EN-41, and bear AP Seal ASTM D4236. Using your Chalkboard Canning Labels

They also adhere to ceramics, wood, steel, aluminum, porcelain, plastics, or other smooth non-porous surfaces. Remove with gentle heat from a hair dryer. Labels and markers are not recommended for painted walls; use our removable Cohas Chalkboard System ChalkFlex for decorating your walls or painted surfaces.

Labels and marker are both dishwasher safe, ensuring you can label, wash, and reuse over and over again. The labels feature a permanent adhesive, so your jars and lids can go right into a canning bath, sink, or dishwasher without the fear of losing a label. The ink inside the included markers is waterproof, which means it won’t wash off with normal use and washing – even with soap! When using the refill kit, be sure to use a waterproof or permanent marker to get the same results.

Pre-clean your labels with Windex or a kitchen cleaner to assure good adhesion of the chalk marker. Let dry before writing or drawing.

Cohas refill kits are available to provide more value and labels for your project. It is recommended that Cohas kits with markers are used with these refill kits. Wet-Wipe markers will smear and the writing will come off when wet.

Chalkboard Label Tips

How to prime a Cohas Chalk Marker, Shake, Push, Write, WashAlways be sure to properly prime and store your waterproof marker. When your canning labels and marker kit arrive, the marker will not be primed and the tip will be dry. Begin by shaking your marker well for one minute; as you do, you’ll hear a small ball inside the barrel. This is mixing the ink thoroughly, as some separation can occur during storage and transportation.

Remove the cap from your marker and hold it vertically, with the tip placed on a scrap piece of material. Push the marker down and hold for no more than 10 seconds. Release the tip to allow it come back out and check for ink. Repeat this process until the ink begins to flow. As needed, re-prime your marker on scrap material.

If your kit includes an extra fine tip 1/2mm marker, you’ll want to use extra care when priming. This marker has a special valve inside that is used for priming. Do not pump the marker, as this will flood the valve and the marker will no longer work. Also, do not prime the marker while you are lettering or creating your design.  All Cohas products come with detailed instructions for use.

Getting and Staying Organized with Cohas Labels

I love these!! My spices are so organized now!

Our kitchen designer suggested putting all my spices in uniform jars with labels on the the top to fit nicely in a drawer standing up. Most lables (sic) that were already printed left out spices I have or listed spices I don’t have. When I found these I was thrilled. I used the white chalk pen for the starting letter of each spice and then used the gold pen to finish. I love the way it looks and they are now super easy to find!

The best part of all is that they wipe off easy with window cleaner so you can use them again or if you make a mistake start all over!

Cohas Chalkboard labels

These Cohas Chalkboard labels work great for my spice jars. I really like the way it has turned out. Some of the complaints of other reviews are about the marker. Yes it takes a while for the liquid chalk to start flowing to the tip of the pen, the harder you push does not make it come out any quicker and will only ruin the tip. Gently push the tip down and scribble lightly until the chalk starts running, mine took a while to work but ended up working fine.

Another complaint was that it didn’t wash off. You must wash it off with a cleaner such as Windex that has ammonia in it (as the package says). With Windex it comes right off and can be rewritten on no problem.

Another issue people have stated was about not being able to use regular chalk on it. I found some pastel chalk that looks and writes like regular chalk does and those do fine on these labels. In one of my pictures of just the labels on the bottom is the chalk pastel, only downside is it writes like a stick of chalk so it’s thick bulky so it’s hard to read if you have a long label. Also it smudges really easy where as the pen that comes with the kit does not smudge once dry.

I have attached a few pictures of my spice rack with the jars and labels on the lids so you can see what the pen writing looks like on the labels themselves. The bottom row of spices is the original ones that came with the rack, I didn’t get enough square jars to finish my custom labels so that’s why they are different.

After use of my pen for a while the ink did seem to saturate a bit too much and leave a thicker line, I’m hoping that by leaving the pen right side up will prevent this from happening that’s the reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Over all though I’m really happy with this product and would recommend it.

These worked wonderfully for me to organize my tea collection

Almost 5 stars, but as other posters have noted, they are difficult to re-position.

These worked wonderfully for me to organize my tea collection. The 1mm marker was thin enough for me to write 2-3 lines of text per label, and the size of the labels was great for affixing to the top of a tea tin (see photo). The marker does take a long time to get the ink flowing when you first use it, so don’t give up, it will eventually flow nicely. (This is true for all “chalk” markers.)

to erase the marker, you do have to scrub just a little bit with Windex, but it’s worth it to me to keep it smudge-free. You can rub your finger across the label and it remains pristine, as long as you let it dry first!

spice_teas_writingI am very happy with these, and although I wish they were a little less expensive (currently $15), I am happy with the product and with my purchase. For my needs (long-term labels on re-usable containers), they were perfect.

They work very well and look great

These labels look artsy on mason and other glass jars. The adhesive is very secure yet labels peel off cleanly as intended. The pen works well. The ink lasts through normal washings but scrubs off as needed. I’m typically a picky customer but no complaints here – they got it right and I will be a repeat customer.
