Cleaning Zig Posterman Markers

Zig Posterman waterpoof paint markers are called semi-permanent because they won’t come off with just water and a sponge. Unlike other markers, like dry and some wet erase, they will not rub off or smudge once they’ve dried. Cleaning paint markers from smooth non-porous surfaces like plastic, glass, and whiteboards or blackboards use Windex with ammonia. And, unlike permanent markers, they wash off easily, leaving the surface free from marks and ready for a new design!

Cleaning Zig markers off is easy when you use the right products. Typical household glass cleaners, like Windex, available at most supermarkets and department stores, as well as whiteboard cleaners, like Expo, available typically at office supply stores, work great to remove Zig markers. Cleaners with ammonia will also work well to remove the markers.  The reason for this is they contain a pH of 10 or higher.

Cleaning Paint Markers Zig Posterman on a whiteboard

Our Cohas Cartoon Character drawn on a whiteboard surface. The cleaner used is a EXPO brand whiteboard cleaner. It will dissolve the pigment based ink after soaking for a minute or so.

For cleaning paint markers from your non-porous surfaces, simply spray the cleaner directly onto the surface or onto a paper towel or sponge. If spraying the surface directly, give the cleaner some time to begin to dissolve the paint markers, then begin wiping, watching as the marks magically disappear. Continue wiping, occasionally rinsing the sponge or moving to a clean area of the paper towel until your design is gone! It’s that easy!

Zig Posterman Waterproof markers come in up to 9 marker tip sizes including our Cohas modified versions. Depending on factory availability 54 different colors are available. Shop all the Posterman liquid chalk markers and paint pots here in our Zig Posterman store on Cohas.com.

A few helpful tips when working with Zig Markers:

  • ALWAYS test your surfaces before creating a full design. Zigs do not come off certain surfaces easily, like wood and clothing.
  • Allow freshly cleaned areas to fully dry before creating new designs. Leftover cleaner will prevent the marker from sticking to the surface.
  • Be sure to clean the area of fingerprints and other elements before creating designs. Zigs don’t work well on dirty surfaces.
  • If you want to set the image into fabric use heat from an iron, this will make the marks harder to come out.
  • Need a thorough final cleaning? Try our 2 inch Zig Chalkboard Cleaner.
