The Carbonating Room

The Cohas Springs are situated in a very large tract of virgin land, known as the Thousand Acres, which is the exclusive property of the Cohassaukee Corporation and is safe guarded by them in every possible manner. This tract is wooded with pines and other native trees and has been retained practically in its wild condition, except for the clearing out of the undergrowth.

That this district was a well known haunt of the Indians is indicated by the name "Cohas" that they applied to it, which signifies "Pine" and there are evidences that these children of nature knew and prized the water from these springs. Certain it is that in 1849 one of the early settlers of the region located his cabin close to the Cohas Springs, on account of their remarkable purity, coldness and large flow.
